Residential Recycling
Due to the requirements of Act 101 of 1988 Penn Township established a recycling program that now includes curbside collection of commingled recyclables and a Recycling Drop-off Center for the collection of newspaper, cardboard and magazines. To promote recycling the Township implemented a Pay-As-You-Throw program for trash collection. The trash collection program is very simple, you purchase only the number of trash bags that you need.
Penn Township residents are REQUIRED to recycle the following products curbside which may be commingled:
Glass food and beverage containers: Bottles and jars only. Clear, brown or green.
NOT ACCEPTABLE: Container lids, ceramics, window or auto glass, light bulbs, drinking glasses, mirrors, porcelain, glass cookware or bakeware and broken glass.
Plastic bottles, containers and jugs: Containers numbered 1, 2 and 5 only with a capacity of 5 gallon or less are acceptable.
NOT ACCEPTABLE: Shopping bags, toys, plastic wrap, utensils, styrofoam, microwave trays, unnumbered plastics, tubs and cups. The plastic lids on soda, milk and similar plastic bottles should be removed and disposed of in the trash.
Aluminum and steel cans: Empty food, beverage, aerosol and paint cans only.
NOT ACCEPTABLE: Cans with paint or chemicals, propane tanks, aluminum foil, pie plates, foil trays or scrap metal.
The Township provides each new home with a recycling bin which is the property of the Township and should remain at that location if you move. Additional or replacement bins can be purchased at the Township office located at 20 Wayne Avenue. If you choose, you can provide your own plastic recycling bin container, however it must be clearly marked with Township recycling stickers on each side and have drain holes in the bottom. The stickers are free and can be picked up at the Township office or the Recycling Drop-off Center.
